yeah.. it actually is..
i will give you 2+2 million dollars so u will now have 5 million dollars
i am so happy at the question that I again give you 2+2 million dollars.
So you have now 10 million dollars..
All you need to return is 9 million dollars to me and u will be rich by a million dollar.
And yeah assuming a=b answer its not a neat trick. It is a division by zero trick.
(2+2)*0 = 5*0
=> (2+2) = 5;
And of course you can come up with your number system which has digits and anything is possible.
for someone who knows calculus
n = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + ... + n times
||| n dn = ||| (1 +1+1+1+...+n times)
n^2/2 = (n+n+n+..+n (n times))
n^2/2 = n^2
1/2 = 1
1 = 2

No.. your dad just showed you a mathematical trick.
Sorry i am going to deviate a little from maths. I once heard a Management Guru say that 2+2=5
He explained it saying that if people work hard then 4 people can do the work that 5 people can actually do. Some food for thought, isn't it?

For very large values of two. Oh, and 2=1.
Just watch:
let a = b
therefore:
a^2 = b^2 = ab
a^2 - b^2 = a^2 - ab
(a+b)(a-b) = a(a-b)
(a+b) = a
a + a = a
2a = a
2 = 1
The trick is to see if you can figure out why this is wrong...
Note: 2+2 does not equal 5, and 2 doesn't equal 1. It's a neat trick though.

It can also be :
2+2=5
5(2+2=5)
10+10=25
20=25
divide 20 to both sides
1=1.25
then; 2=2.50
therefore 2+2=5

2+2=4 mathematically
unless ur dad was tricking u.
(2+2) 5
4 x 5= 20
20/4= 5
So there u have it.

Yes it can, at school we used to prank each other by counting out the math problem on your fingers. tap each finger on one hand saying TWO AND TWO IS FIVE. That way you have five fingers in use for every word of the math problem and undoubtable proof that it in actual fact does equal five.
Slight downside to this though is that every answer where you add two (non decimal) numbers together equal five.

Start with,
-1 = -1
Reordering minus sign,
-1/1 = 1/-1
Take square root on both sides,
sqrt(-1/1) = sqrt(1/-1)
Split square root,
sqrt(-1)/sqrt(1) = sqrt(1)/sqrt(-1)
Cross multiply,
sqrt(-1) sqrt(-1) = sqrt(1) sqrt(1)
(sqrt(-1))^2 = (sqrt(1))^2
-1 = 1
Divide by 2 on both sides,
-1/2 = 1/2
Add 4 1/2 to both sides,
4 1/2 - 1/2 = 4 1/2 + 1/2
4 = 5
2 + 2 = 5
Note: This is just a trick, there is a flaw somewhere, do you know where it is?
