WV took a very long time to become a state compared to the rest of the East Coast , my question is why? i know the reason for the west coast states being late is because they wernt really ours for awhile we had to fight or buy them over time. but it would seem like all of the east coast was US territoriy for awhile. In case you dont know WV is 35th in order of statehood , while the other eastrn states were in the first 20 or so.

I hope this isn't a dumb question. But I guess it could have been apart of another nation before. Like Alaska was part of Russia years and years ago.
