This is a silly question. You have to define what "better" means to get any kind of meaningful answer.

Canada has better (universal) healthcare.
The US has a better (more lethal) military.
Canada has fewer religious wackos.
The US has more venture capitalism, leading to a higher degree of technological innovation.

Make up your own mind as to which is better.

Which is better, Canada or the United States? The question is either vague or incomplete and will not - and cannot - deserve an appropriate response. Why? Because it does not establish the standards or measuring guidelines by which to base an answer to it.

For example, a person who is asking the question might have comparative economic advantages in mind, or he might be thinking about cultural or even racial homogeneity.

If the question was re-written with emphasis on comparative economic advantages that might be derived from either country, then it would read this way:

"In terms of economic and job opportunities, which will be a better country to live in, Canada or the United States?" To this, the answer obviously will be the United States, considering that it is the richest nation on earth in terms of
business and economic output called gross national products.

If the question was tilted toward homogeneity of the races or nationalities that lived in each nation, then the question will be rendered as follows:

"In terms of racial homogeneity or cross-cultural unity, which of Canada or the United States will be a better place to live in?" At least on face value, the answer will be Canada considering that it has a population that is almost Caucasian in nature, as compared to the United States where there are larger percentages of diversified races like white, black, Asian, and Latino.

If the question asked for the country with better opportunities for jobs, housing, or equal opportunity legislation, then the obvious choice will be the United States. Or if the question asked for the country with less inner-City crimes or ghetto-like
existence, then the answer will be Canada.

Our conclusion? The original question needs to be re-written to include measuring guidelines for the choice to be made.
The question is misleading, incomplete, or otherwise pointless.

I rest my case. But I bid you good night and blessings to your family - whether they are in Canada, the United States or elsewhere.

Both countries have a common language for the most part English and for the most part were colonies of England.

I would argue the U.S. is better. I argue it on the basis of I am a citizen of the U.S. I know if I were Canadian I would argue Canada was better.

The reason being is patriotism.

We are better because we have
*a stronger influence on world affairs and culture
*stronger military
*economically stronger

Neither country is "better." No country is really better than another. If you're going by economic standards, then the U.S.
