There are still areas in the American West that are uninhabited wilderness (though less than I'd like). But there really is no such thing as the "Wild West" anymore. It pretty much died out with the end of the cowboy era and the coming of the railroad.

Most of Nevada (pretty much anywhere outside of Las Vegas) could still be considered the Wild West; lots of ghost towns (abandoned mining towns), old mines, little tiny saloons and gambling halls, etc.

I live in small town Kansas, you folks come out here on a Saturday night, then say that there is no more wild west!

Idaho is even wilder.
