If a known north magnetic field(bar magnet) is placed near a compass it's field is repeled so is the current north magnetic pole really north?

apparently this field and adjoining feild aprox 20 acres, used to be natural lake,which has been landfilled ,and now used for grazing ,replaced with a man made damn, reservoir further up the valley! coincidence or not there is a Roman forte only a couple of 100 yards awy?

I recently inherited a "meteorite" which was claimed to be verified as such by an "expert". It is heavy, has a dark molten pitted appearance, and was not typical of the rocks in the area (desert). I believe that it meets all the criteria of a meteorite except that it is not magnetic (or is very weak). I would appreciate any knowledgeable input. Thanks
