It had to first come from something, or maybe in the beginning of time it was like any other the rock, the exception being that ice melts at a comfortable level that life could form. Other rocks can melt, but at a higher rate, so its almost like rock/lava/water.
Does anyone really know?

My best friend was watching a show that has all sorts of credibility in regards to predicting things such as the exact date of a full moon, longest day, shortest day, etc.
One prediction was the last day of Earth. It stated the last day of earth is December 12, 2012. Have any of you seen this show? Do any of you believe this?

I have a ring of my grandmother's and it has a stone in it that I'm not sure what it is. I've asked in jeweler's stores and they always say : ' the gemologist is on vacation' or 'not here'.

It changes colour in the light. Right now it is kind of deep purple colour , but in artificial light it is more reddish/pinkish-purple and in sunlight it looks blueish-purple.

Its not a plastic stone; its a real piece of jewelry. I'm very interested in what it could be. It looks like its cut in a round brilliant cut. Any ideas of what it could be?

The title pretty much explains it. I want to be a paleontologist when I grow up, and I figure picking up the hobby of amateur fossil hunting would help maybe. Tips would also be greatly appreciated, thank you!
