I just read the little blurb about Stephen Hawking saying that humans are going to need to move to the moon or to one of the planets in order to sustain our species. Do you think that will eventually happen? Does anyone know if scientists are actually working on something like that? It seems so sci-fi that I can barely wrap my brain around it!

I am retired mechanical engineer from India now in USA on a short visit. I wrote several articles on natural calamity .Understanding its behaviors it self will save the people. The articles can be translated in their local language to educate the people. My design of safety equipments were appreciated by several scientists in India. The quake alarm designed by me that differs in its concept and construction can be manufactured just for US $ 25. Even a poor person can fix it in their house to save the life during earthquake. It has proved its capability in several occasions including on the day of Tsunami. Who will join with me to take it to the people world wide? I am working for the safety of the people and not for the money... By A.Ganapathy . India

The land moves a little at the moon's gravitational pull. The oceans move a lot, with tides lifting or beaching boats, or water lines surging high or retreating sometimes miles away from shore in places. But what of the air? Does the air get thinner and the atmosphere higher during a lunar tide, or does the upwelling water squish the space, causing a higher atmospheric pressure when the tide is high? How would we know? If the sweep of water swells as the tides follow the moon around the planet, does that then displace air and cause winds or storms? How would we know? The mechanics of water tides is well known and recognized for centuries, but no one talks of the moon's effect on the air.

My husband and I disagree. I say the seasons are different depending on what part of the world you live in becasue the earth rotates and since we are in the summer now we are closest to the sun but half way around the world the sun is at the farthest point so they are in their winter. My husband says if it is summer here it is summer everywhere. Which one of us can take claim to being the know-it-all .

Last month i asked "if U.S. could build a Super Weapon, don't you think it wouldn't blow up Mars?"

Sad thing guys.. i think what the U.S. is gonna do is worse.. blowing up the the Moon.. the reason? Mining.

Exactly.. our one and only Moon is believed to have a control of most of the Earth's elements.. and think of the debris..

Tell me what you think.

I know it's highly improbable for there to even be an eruption this century, let alone ten centuries from now. I just want to know what would happen to the United States, based on modern weather projections what would happen if Yellow Stone were to erupt in a supervolcano. With the force and destruction that it had erupted in the previous supervolcano eruption. I want sources so I can look it up myself, so don't answer without one.
