Assuming the Earth stopped rotating and there were no major catastophies related to that, how could humans survive with the Earth orbiting the sun but not rotating on its axis?

The only way humans could survive would be underground and only if they had a reliable source of power such as geothermal or maybe nuclear if they had access to fuel.

The weather would make life on the surface unlivable.

If the Earth stopped rotating without catastophe, the main issue would be cessassion of day and night. This means one side of the Earth would always be day and the other side always night. Plants would die on that side, so would animals. Humans would have to move to the sunny side. This would become so hot, most people would die. Also, the weather would completely change because the water cycle would be interrupted. Since all plants and animals would die, I don't think humans could survive such a scenario.

the day the world stops rotating might be the day we see complete nuclear fusion runing the earth. that unlimited(or so i heard) source of power would make the night and day problems easier. blocking out the sun is only a factor of blocking the suns rays which wouldnt be a problem. as for the weather changes i have no clue how we would react to that especially since even now we have a new category for hurricanes. for me catagory 6 would be the most terrible thing right now, ive gone through category 5 storms and those were bad but 6, man were in trouble. hopefully this dosent happen ever or we might see catagory 7 and higher.

Once the earth stopped rotating, no one will survive as it will be sucked by the other planet nearest to it. It will cause the destruction of the the arrangement/orbit of planets, stars and other celestial bodies in the universe and start the lumping of all matters into a single mass.

It is the continuous movement or rotation of planets, stars, etc. that maintain order in the universe.

What do you mean by major issues. If no major issues happen, then nothing major will happen either, i mean people will continue to live as usual. By the way -- how can nothing major not happen and rotation stop? (Day/Night?)

there would be a 1 major issue.......half the world would alwyz live in light & the rest half in darkness......i honestly dont think survival would be possible if the earth stopped rotating......it would bring numerous problems

They would have to move to the temperate areas.

Since the sun would be shining on one spot only that spot would be to hot and the other side to cold...

Would probably have some serious issues with gravity also.
