I just read the little blurb about Stephen Hawking saying that humans are going to need to move to the moon or to one of the planets in order to sustain our species. Do you think that will eventually happen? Does anyone know if scientists are actually working on something like that? It seems so sci-fi that I can barely wrap my brain around it!

Not only will we need to move to the moon or another planet, we will need to develope the capability to move to another galaxy outside of the galaxies in our local cluster.

The Milky Way Galaxy (where we are located) and the Andromeda Galaxy (one of our neighboring galaxies) are on a collision course so we need to be gone when this happens. Of course, current estimates say this is 3 to 5 billion years away so we may have time. Some other estimates give us only 200 million years.

i read that article too on cnn . i think in the near future it will happen cause this world is not going to last that much longer at the rate were going. so its pretty obvious thats what we need to do to preserve our species instead of spending billions on war we can use it to build colonies on other planets until we have the capability of traveling to different galaxies and finding a planet like our own. i think they are working on it thats why they have a probe on mars looking for signs of water of life

Hawking's ALS may well be causing him some dementia. Celeb worship of Hawking is just as delusional.

the only plans presently is to return to the moon and to travel to mars, but not a migration. the only other places to go are other moons and asteroids.
