I have an assignment, which is to design and plan an experiment to compare the reactivity of metals / halogens using salts of metals/ sodium halides. ( or any other suitable method ) Can anyone suggest a simple experiment with a rather simple setup? Kindly name all reagents and equipment used. :)Also, I need to describe what happens in each step of the experiment. Could anyone help me out?

PS: What are sodium halides? Just wondering.

Thanks!

Why is water an excellent solvent for most ionic compounds, and polar-covalent molecules, but not for non-polar molecules?

What are two factors that affect the solubility of an ionic compound in water?

And why is a non-polar solute does not dissolve in a polar solvent?

Thanks in advance!

Is it used to monitor concentrations in the atmosphere?

I know it's used to monitor soil samples, but how?

And it's also used to monitor pollution in water and industrial waste, right? But HOW?

Any info would be much appreciated, of even (better maybe) a link to a webpage that can give me some into on AAS and pollution. I've been looking for hours and i can't find one.

Thanks in advance.

Silver is widely used in jewellery and for tableware. Although the metal is highly resistant to oxidation by air at ordinary temperatures, it becomes tarnished when exposed to air containing small amounts of hydrogen sulphide. The tarnish is a layer of silver sulphide. The overall reaction is:

4 Ag + 2 H2S --> 2 Ag2S + 2 H2O

What mass of silver sulphide would form from the reaction of 0.015 g of silver?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
