Yellow Pages. "ice." If there is a place in your neighborhood that supplies mobile ice cream vendors, the refrigerant is Dry Ice in ten pound blocks.

1) The temp is -78 C or -198 F. Do you know how to safely handle stuff like that? Do you have insulated gloves?
2) You need a *vented* foam thick-walled vessel to transport and store it. Carbon dioxide has a vapor pressure of 830 psi at 20 °C.
3) Ventilation! If you drive with it in your car with the windows up, you will asphyxiate.
4) PV = energy, 101.625 joules/liter-atm. If you make a mistake with pressurized gas it will be a BIG mistake.

i have purchased it at local grocery stores before, go to the meet department (specifically the seafood department if they are different) and ask if they have any they could give/sell you.

seafood is shipped in on a daily basis and packed in dry ice to keep it cold for transport, the stores have no use for it so they just let it melt (or evaporate, whatever you call it).

I don't know of any laws that say you can't get it, but I don't know of any place that sells it and keeps regular stock.

The seafood departments are a good option but they can be hit and miss, if the person you talk to is a jerk they might just not give it to you, or they might not have any if they havent recieved any shipments that day.

Good luck, and be careful, dry ice burns hurt like hell so use gloves.

Yes, however as it is cold enough to cause injury by relatively short contact with unprotected skin, and can be extremely dangerous if confined, many places will be reluctant to sell it to you unless you have a good reason for the purchase and seem to know how to handle it safely.

Yes of course. But it is very sublime. It is very costly for common man b'cause of small quantity.
