all atoms consists of electrons,protons and neutrons.atoms also share their electrons.so what fundamentaly decides the properties and charecteristics of each element?an atom X has 12 electrons.atom Y has 10.while attaining octet atom X loses 2 electrons from its valence shell.now it has only 10 electrons.wont it show properties similar to atom Y now?

My molecule is sulfur hexachloride (SCl6) I have to build a molecular model, I already did that, it was easy. But I also have to find at least 3 physical properties such as melting point, boiling point, state of compound at room temperature (solid, liquid, gas), color or smell, etc. and I have to state one practical use of my molecule.
