Alright, I am in a BIO II course and for my lab I have to write an autobiographical sketch on the phylum Annelida(segmented worms--earthworms, leeches, etc.). I am trying to start the paper and I am having a hard time deciding where to go with it. I am not sure if I want to be over the top and creative or straightforward and informative, yet not dull. Anyways, I would appreciate any helpful ideas. Any help is appreciated.

for a life form to change in order to adapt to a new environment or physical need (like the feathers of a bird), is this change intellectual on a biological level or is it just luck?
How does the micro-organism know what shape does it need to transform itself into, even if this change takes thousands of years to occure.
Is evolution an intellectual micro-biological process or not?
Just wondering.......

I was just reading on a philosophy web page and a topic had to do with homosexuality. This question has NOTHING to do with it being right or wrong or anything of that nature. I want to ask one thing and one thing only. I had never thought of this and I lack the biology to explain it. It was brought up in the thread and Im very anxious to understand.

If Homosexuality is genetic (I believe it is. If you dont, dont reply to this because it makes my question pointless. I only want answers assuming it IS genetic otherwise my entire question is meaningless) how is it passed on? Homosexual individuals will not procreate so how can their genes be passed on? This also applies to horrible genetic diseases. If the individuals with it die, how are those diseases still around? (Surely they will reproduce before dying, but not as much as others. The carriers of the disease will eventually die out)

Im assuming maybe each homosexual person is a specific mutation and is not heritable? Please help!:)

(This is a serious question, not any sort of racist commentary.....)

Why did humans living in hotter parts of the world evolve with darker skin and humans in colder parts with lighter skin?

It occurred to me that in order for humans to be more comfortable it should be the other way round because dark skin absorbs heat while light skin reflects it.....

Any thoughts?
