I guess I was thinking in a broader sense. The pulmonary arteries are the blood vessels that branch and branch, eventually forming the capillaries in the alveoli.

Likewise, the capillaries of the alveoli form larger and larger vessels until the blood returns to the heart in the pulmonary veins.
