Alright, I am in a BIO II course and for my lab I have to write an autobiographical sketch on the phylum Annelida(segmented worms--earthworms, leeches, etc.). I am trying to start the paper and I am having a hard time deciding where to go with it. I am not sure if I want to be over the top and creative or straightforward and informative, yet not dull. Anyways, I would appreciate any helpful ideas. Any help is appreciated.

I'd keep it fairly straightforward for a bio II class, and I'd definitely choose to be an earthworm rather than a leech or a marine annelid. Earthworms are pretty interesting. Darwin did all kinds of studies about earthworms, including studying how they pull leaves down into their burrows. Bet you could find lots of info to use that would be interesting as well as informative.

In fact, here's a website with the text of Darwin's study online. http://www.darwin-literature.com/The_Formation_Of_Vegetable_Mould/1.html You could write from the point of view of a worm that Darwin is studying. He did all kinds of experiments with the worms, and you could use the descriptions of these experiments as a way to describe the earthworm's behaviors and physical characteristics.

Now I want to read this again. Good luck with your paper.

I once had a biology professor that explained that a paper should be like a mini skirt. Short enough to be interesting and long enough to cover the subject. Some entertainment does not hurt but over the top is not called for and would not be appreciated.
