Biology - January 2007

[Selected]: All categories Science & Mathematics Biology

I just took a quiz in biology, and the only question I missed stated: Researchers clone an adult animal by using nuclei from its cells to replace the nuclei in the eggs from which the animals developed. And the book said: In cloning an entire animal, the nucleus from a single cell of that adult animal replaces the nucleus of an unfertilized egg cell from another animal of the same species.

See how they use nuclei in the question, and nucleus in the textbook? somebody help meh, help meh please!

I read an article about the Ashley Treatment, and a few people wrote in the comments something about it being "(the word)"
I didn't know what that word meant, and I looked it up it meant something like altering the genetics. I think it was genetics with a prefix.
Does anyone happen to know what I mean and help me?
Thanks!

some people say that because people of developed countries like US, UK etc live in very hygienic and bacteria/germ free conditions, and always drink water which is free from even relatively harmless germs, so their body is less immune to commonly found germs and bacteria in nature. they tend to get fever/illness far quicker than people in countries like india/pakistan/bangladesh and african countries where many people live in non-hygienic conditions, drink unclean water and yet do not get ill because over time immune power of their bodies increases a lot. after all we humans were designed by nature to live in forests, and to drink water from rivers etc which does have many type of micro-organisms, and to live in quite un-hygienic conditions.

1.Speculate about how reasonable you think these theories are. Are the events that formed planets, biological molecules, and cells probable or improbable? Explain why you believe as you do

2."Living things reproduce" and "Living things inherit traits through their genes" are two characteristics of life. Apply your knowledge of cells and heredity as you think of what other molecules and biological processes would need to be present in order for a protobiont to be considered a living entity.
