Australia Ends Ban on Human Cloning

CANBERRA, Australia (Dec. 6) - Australia legalized the cloning of human embryos for stem cell research with a vote by the House of Representatives Wednesday that lifted a four-year-old ban on the procedure.

The parliament passed Australia's first laws on stem cell research in 2002, allowing scientists to extract stem cells from spare embryos intended for in-vitro fertilization but preventing cell cloning.

The law passed Wednesday allows therapeutic cloning, the splicing of skin cells with eggs to produce stem cells, also known as master cells, which are capable of forming all the tissues of the human body.

Scientists hope stem cell research will eventually lead to treatments for conditions including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, as well as spinal cord injuries, diabetes and arthritis.

Opponents said the bill promoted unproven science that did not respect the human rights of the unborn.

Is this a good idea? Should the U.S. do the same

I think the human body is an amazing creation from God. And all the parts of the body and how it functions is just amazing. Like the digestive system and how the body heals its self its just great. But what is puzzling to me is how the hair turns gray as one gets older. Is it a chemical imbalance when we get older or what but I just think Gray hair is so beautiful especially when you have a full head of that silver looking long hair, I love it, I cant wait to get mine.

Black hair is dominant to white hair. A breeder has a black haired male dog that came from 2 black haired parents. The breeder heard that some of the dogs in this family had white hair. He wants to sell this dog to a buyer for a lot of money. The buyer will only buy dogs that do not carry the gene for white hair. What test can he do to show the dog does or does not carry the gene for white hair.

It has DNA (or some sort of RNA), it can adapts to its environment (evolve), it can reproduce (not on it's own, but non-the-less it can). It even has protien (only one, but it's still there).

I don't understand why we don't consider viruses living.
