Dr. Bieber was one of the key participants in the historical debate which culminated in the 1973 decision to remove homosexuality from the psychiatric manual.

His paper describes psychiatry's attempt to adopt a new "adaptational" perspective of normality. During this time, the profession was beginning to sever itself from established clinical theory--particularly psychoanalytic theories of unconscious motivation--claiming that if we do not readily see "distress, disability and disadvantage" in a particular psychological condition, then the condition is not disordered.

On first consideration, such a theory sounds plausible. However we see its startling consequences when we apply it to a condition such as pedophilia. Is the happy and otherwise well-functioning pedophile "normal"? As Dr. Bieber argues in this article, psychopathology can be ego-syntonic and not cause distress; and social effectiveness.. http://www.narth.com/docs/normalization.html

Is there a direct relationship between lucidity in dreams and extra-sensorial powers in the real world?

Can achieving lucidity in dreams help acquire other abilities like the ones above mentioned?

When I was about 9 yrs. old, I was riding my bike on a Sunday at dusk. An old man(about 50) stoped and rolled down his passenger window to ask me if I knew where a certain street was.
I told him I did'nt recognize the name of the street and he told me
how pretty I was and that my hand looked really soft and wanted to touch it. Being the obediant child of the fifty's, I held out my hand so he could feel it. Just as my hand was within 3 inches of his, I heard a stern woman's voice in my right ear say "NO".
I was so startled, that I got back on my bike and told him that I had to go home. I'm not crazy...I know what I heard....who was she?

My daughter often knows what people are getting ready to say or she'll finish their sentences when they don't say it fast enough. It's amazing how often she does this, and it's not just obvious things people would say, it's often something random or rare. For example, just today I was going to tell her about a movie I saw, but I couldn't think of the name of it. She blurted out "The Royal Tenenbaums." And that was it! She heard of it, but she had never seen it. She does that really often with alot of people. What do you think it is?

If the South had won the War of Northern Agression (or 'Civil War'), where might our two countries be today? Given how bad things have gotten in the U.S.A., it's not hard to believe that history might have taken a better turn. Slavery of course would be long gone, for economic reasons. Race relations today in the Old South, in rural areas and cities such as Charleston, South Carolina, are generally better than they are in northern cities.. When southerners say they have a special relationship with blacks based on many generations of living together at close quarters, they have a point. The real damage to race relations in the south came not from slavery, but from Reconstruction.

Certainly Southerners would not be living under the iron rule of an all-powerful federal government, as we all do now. Northerners might not be, either; a Union defeat would have given states' rights a boost in both countries. The Tenth Amendment might still have the force of law even up north.

There seem to be a great number of people out there who are always trying to prove that they have telekinesis. There are also quite a few people who are constantly denying that TK is possible. Why don't the people who "can" do it sit down with the nonbelievers and show them? And why don't the nonbelievers ever ask the "psychics" to sit down and show them their ability? It seems to me that there's no need for all the debating..

It has not been proven to be natural or biological. it could very well be a mental disorder...Why do we consider this notion clase closed. Pedophiles are known as mentally ill people. A lot of people that consider thmselves gay or bisexual have a history of sexual abuse...this is a fact....and why is it a fad for girls to be bisexual. I heard something like 35% of girls 18-21 consider themselves bisexual in US colleges. I don't pass judgement on homosexuals ..I'm just asking why can't I question it?
