A metal sphere of radius R, carrying charge q, is surrounded by a thick concentric metal shell (inner radius a, outer radius b). The shell carries no net charge.

(A) Find the surface charge density R, at a, and at b.

(B) Find the potential at the center, using infinity as the reference point.

(C) Now the outer surface is touched to a grounding wire, which lowers its potential to zero (same as infinity). How do your answers (A) and (B) change?

An archer shoots an arrow with a velocity of 51.5 m/s at an angle of 54.5° with the horizontal. An assistant standing on the level ground 150 m downrange from the launch point throws an apple straight up with the minimum initial speed necessary to meet the path of the arrow.
(a) What is the initial speed of the apple?
(b) At what time after the arrow launch should the apple be thrown so that the arrow hits the apple?

okay i got the first part of the question which equals 41.39 m/s. i cant solve part b. please help. thanks in advance.

This is a problem of mine for physics:

A car travels due east with a speed of 50.0 km/h. Rain is falling vertically with respect to the Earth. The traces of the rain on the side windows of the car make an angle of 50.0° with the vertical. Find the velocity of the rain with respect to each of the following.

a) The car(in m/s)
b) The Earth (in m/s)

I've been attempting these for a while. The only solution I could come up with for A is Tan50=x/13.9. I got the answer then converted from km/h to m/s to get 16.56. The computer is telling me this is wrong. I have no idea what to do next.

Any help or guidance would be great on both! Thanks!

All right, so I've been reading up on this Large Hadron Collider deal, and I'm not so sure I like the implications. Apparently, the scientists CONDUCTING the experiment aren't even sure what the thing does. When it is finally switched on, which I've heard will be anywhere from November 26, 2007 to May 2008, it will either, prove the big bang theory, by producing in layman's terms a little universe all it's own out of nothing, OR, it could create a black hole, or dimensional rift. Does anyone else think that this is a particularly BAD idea? Anyway, just something going through my head. You can look up the info on Wiki if you're unaware of this subject.

I used to live down the street from the house and my father worked on the house. He got paid 25 cents an hour in those days.
I can tell you that everything I have ever felt ,known or heard from people that really know, that place has not the slightest of the paranormal. It is just dangerous to walk around in, especially in the dark.
Also I thought it was funny that David
Wells said there was a Hispanic spirit worker there. At the time of the work going on so many non white workers wee out of work that the only non whites that got a job were Europeans that had very special skills. Even the laborers were white men.
I believe he was assuming that since it was California that there were all Hispanic workers, so I feel he busted himself pretty good.
It was a pretty good job for all of the intricate decorative trim done with no power tools at all.
If you find anyone else who has worked there at that time, they will tell you the same.

1. How many kilojoules are required to raise the temperature of 4.55 x 10 *2* ml of water from 22.4 C to 300 K?

2. When 8.78 x 10 *2* J of heat are absorbed by 1.25 x 10 *2* grams of silver from 25.0 C to 54. 9 C. What is the specific heat of silver?

3. A copper wire weighing 3.16 g absorbs 42.8 J of heat. If its initial temperature is 22.6 C, what is its final temperaure? The specific heat capacity of copper is 0.385 J/g C.

*2* means "squared"

I am learning about acids and bases and the Bronsted-Lowry definition (grade 11)

Everything seemed to make sense until i found how that CO2 becomes an acid in water...
I don't understand how this can be, since acids donate protons to water... but where is the H+ in CO2???

To me it makes sense only that CO2 is a base because then it can accept an H+

Please show me the chemical equation/s of how CO2 reacts with water and how the proton gets transfered.

Prove: If A is a subset of B, then A union C is a subset of B union C.

My first inclination was to do a direct proof. But all I ended up doing was defining the initial subset.

Let x be any object.
Suppose A subset B.
Then x is an element of A implies x is an element of B.

Where should I go from there?

I also tried to work backward from the consequent, but got lost in the four different combinations of A U C subset B U C.

I don't think contradiction would work, either.

Please, I need suggestions or help getting on the right track.

Thanks
