1 remainder 17000??

is there a possible way i can get 1.39535 on pen and paper without calculator?

suppose i was taking a test without a calc and i got the answer that i did the long division way? would my answer be wrong? because the calc is telling me 1.39535!

begins to fall from ten million km distance. How fast will it be going when it hits (relative to Earth). I believe it will never exceed the "Escape Velocity" of Earth, even if it is a light year away. What about 100 light years, etc.? Anyone?

I just don't get it, Earth is the only planet with life but other planets are not. These unstable planets are wasting there time here but Jupiter is keeping the rocks from falling into earth. We don't need those other gas planets. It seem to me Venus, Mercury should have life like earth but it don't. Is mars consider a planet or a moon.

What would happen if all that existed was two stars, completely identical in every way, and you were standing right between them, dead center? Would gravity be cancelled out? What would happen to you? (I mean, aside from dying in the vacuum) Would it depend on how far apart the stars were? What would happen if they were relatively far apart? If they were close?

ok i asked a question yesterday about percentages and i got
this is the problem i asked:
''in year 1996 the net income for such and such a family was $43,000 and now in 2007, it has risen to $60,000 (i just made up that statistic)
by how much percent did it raise? questions like those! how do i calculate to figure out that answer? what are the steps? please!!! i'm eager to know!!!!''
so i got the answer which was
''60000 MINUS 43000 = 17000 DIVIDED BY 43000 =.395348 OR 39.5348 INCREASE TO CHECK MULTIPLY 1.395348 TIMES 43000= 59999.964 OR NEARLY 60000 SO WAGES HAVE RISEN BY 39.5348. THE ACTUAL INCREASE IS 39.5348837''

the only problem is about the answer is that when they divided
17000 BY 43000 , they got 395348 !!! but when i did it on pen and paper, i got http://www.webmath.com/cgi-bin/dividewrap.cgi?divisor=43000÷nd=17000&back=divide.html

I'm taking a test on problems such as these and we are not allowed to use calculators! so how can i get that same

If jupiter is a gas planet then why it have moons for, there nothing living on jupiter but maybe we can live on europa. It seems that Europa should be the planet and Jupiter be the moon. We don't need these other planets bc they don't have no life to it.
