Jane wants to take out a 20 yr mortage. the interest rate is 8% compounded semi-annually. jane can afford monthly payments of $850. what is the largest mortage that she can afford?

My attempt at a solution ( using a graphing calculator):
N= 20 x 12 = 240
I%= 8
*PV= 102 612.70???
PMT= -850
FV = 0
P/Y = 12
C/Y = 2
PMT = END

but im suppose to solve this without a graphing calculator.

PV = (R(1-(1/1+i)^n)/i

R = 850
n = 240
i = ????
HELP!!!!!!

I'm working on a lab in a biology class. This lab is used by many, many schools so this question might look familiar (though it's not on Yahoo Answers yet). I'm looking for the effect, and why the effect happens. What alcohol causes the greatest damage to the beet cell membrane -- methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol -- and why? Size of molecule?

I have an equation: x'+(1/t)x=1.
I need to find a g(t) that would work when it is put in like so...
x'e^(g(t)) + (1/t)xe^(g(t)).
I think that g(t)=2/t^2 but I'm not sure. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I am analysing some material and I have totally confused my self. I have an answer to the following but would love someone else to confirm it. And maybe show working out.

I had a 0.01g sample of pure material (compound X) which I diluted in 1 ml of water from this solution I took 0.1 ML of liquid and diluted it in 1 ML of water. This gave me a 1 mg in 1 ML standard which I used to calibrate the Machine; the machine gave a value of 52500 for 1 mg in 1 ML.

For my unknown sample I dissolved 1g in 1.5 ML water, from this solution I took 0.1ML and diluted this with 1 ML of water. The machine gave this a value of 2656.

So my question what % of my unknown sample is compound X?

Let’s say that humans actually settled on Jupiter and the “United States of Jupiter” adopted the same driving law. If you waited to get your license until you were 18 years old, living on Jupiter your whole life, what would your age be in Earth years?

In the very distant future, could a starship supposedly generate it's own wormhole around the ship? The spacecraft could generate massive amounts of magnetic energy and other forms of energy that would cause space-time distortions that would limit the worm-field to be the same shape as the ship. That way, the ship could travel through the wormhole and yet remain on course. I'm NOT crazy, I just had this idea. Could it happen?
