I'm working on a lab in a biology class. This lab is used by many, many schools so this question might look familiar (though it's not on Yahoo Answers yet). I'm looking for the effect, and why the effect happens. What alcohol causes the greatest damage to the beet cell membrane -- methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol -- and why? Size of molecule?

If you did the experiment, your results are what you saw. Which of the alcohols caused the most pigment to leak out of the beet cells? Can you relate the amount of color released to the size of the molecules?

You shouldn't even try to just find the answers. YOUR answers in an experiment are based on YOUR observations...Not someone else's.
