3 men went to stay at a motel, the stay in total was $30. They each put in $10. The manager then decided that b/c it was 4 a.m. when they checked in, he would take $5 off the price. He sent his clerk to give them back $5. The clerk said to himself, "they cant split $5 evenly so, I cam going to give them $3 and keep $2 for myself. So if the 3 men each got back a dollar. Thay all spent $27. But if the clerk kept the $2 that would make it $29. Where is the other dollar??? I know 3+2+5. But when you look at the total of what they sepnt and what the clerk kept. Its doesn't make sense. There is an answer, I just cant figure it out. Does anyone know???

If A is invertible and 'a' cannot equal zero, then aA is invertible and
(aA)^-1 = 1/a(A^-1)

I'm confused with this question. It doesn't say what small 'a' is supposed to be, is it any number? We are still in the beginning of linear algebra, so I can't use anything too advanced to prove it. I'm not sure where to start.

The waters of the oceans contain many elements in trace amounts. Rubidium, for example, is present at the level of 2.2 nM (1 nM = 10^-9 M).What volume of seawater have to be processed to recover 510 kg of rubidium, assuming that the recovery process was 100% efficient?

of positive real numbers. Without using words of negation, for each statement write a sentence that expresses its negation.

a)For all xЄA, there is a bЄB such that b>x
b)There is an xЄA such that, for all bЄB, b>x
c)For all x, yЄR, f(x) = f(y) => x=y
d)For all bЄR, there is an xЄR such that f(x)=b
e)For all x, yЄR and all εЄP, there is a δЄP such that |x-y|<δ implies |f(x)-f(y)|<ε
d)For all εЄP, there is a δЄP such that, for all x, yЄR, |x-y|<δ implies |f(x)-f(y)|<ε

Any help on this would be nice!

I am working on some problems for one of my classes and I have to convert 2's complement binary to decimal and I am wondering if I did it right.
so the 2 complement binary is 0110, so I know it's a positive number because of the leading term. Then I inverted it, making it 1001 and add 1 getting 1010 and I get 10, but the prof.'s answer says it's 6, but I don't know why, and I don't know where I messed up, or if he did.
Thanks

Hi, I am desperately needing some help with these equations.
My goal is to find x and I'm a little lost.
I hope I can explain these well enough that someone knows what I'm talking about.

The first one is:
log3x=2

The second problem looks like:
-6^-3x=-73
(*Note: the '^' is "to the power of"...So it'd be like -6 to the power of -3x...I hope that makes sense!)

Third:
2logbase7 x - logbase7 7=logbase7 7
(This one was really hard to explain. The two is out in front of the log, followed by a base 7 and then an x..minus a log base 7 followed by just a 7...equals..a log base 7, followed by a regular 7...I put a space after the base to indicate that it's not part of the base...Does that make sense?)

The next one is:
logbasen 4=5
(So log base 'n' followed by a 4...equals 5..)

Next is:
logbase5 (x-4)=3
(Okay...a log with a base 5 followed by (x-4) equals 3.)

If anyone could help me out with these problems I would be extremely thankful. I've been struggling to solve these all day.
