If they are just released, they need some force to push them apart - like electrostatic repulsion or an explosion. We may need to know that information - is it on the diagram you mentioned?

I don't quite understand your question, but I suppose when the spheres are very far apart, the speed should be zero? it would stop at one point, considering the fact that there would be air resistance and all...
