Ball C, moving in the positive direction of an x axis at speed v, collides with stationary ball D at the origin. C and D have different masses. After the collision, C moves in the negative direction of the y axis at speed v/2. (a) in what direction does D move? (b) show that the speed of D cannot be determined from the given information.

THIS IS WHAT I GOT FOR ONE OF MY PREVIOUS QUESTIONS:
How do I show that the equation x^5 +2x^3 -x^2 -2x -6 only has one solution without using the graphical method?
First- Any nth degree (here n=5) polynomial has at most n complex roots.

Second : One way would be to find all the roots
root1 = 1.395917950,
root2 = .1362911182+1.710032257*I,
root3 = -.8342500933+.8744321762*I,
root4 = -.8342500933-.8744321762*I, .
root5 = 1362911182-1.710032257*I
ie 4 complex roots, one real root. All 5 roots have been found and only one is real.

but i don't understand what the other complex roots mean. like there is fake roots that don't cut the x-axis so where do these complex roots cut? Please explain anything that will help me understand

Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium Model
Problems (Answer is supplied; you show the work.)

Remember that the letters refer to frequency of:
p = dominant allelesp2 = homozygous dominant trait
q = recessive alleles2pq = heterozygous trait
q2 = recessive trait

1. In a population of 500, how many homozygous dominant individuals are present if the recessive allele shows up at a frequency of 60%? Answer: 80

2. Suppose you have a population of guinea pigs in which 2/3 of the alleles for coat color specify black (dominant) and 1/3 specify white (recessive). What is the frequency of dominant and recessive traits, according to Hardy-Weinberg, in this population?
Answer: 44% and 11%, respectively

3. Of 400 people who dwell on a Pacific island, 16 are recessive for a trait that has only two different types of alleles in the population. What is the number of heterozygous people in the population? Answer: 128

4. In a population that is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, the frequency of the recessive genotype is 49%. What is the percentage of the population that is heterozygous?
Answer: 42%

5. If the frequency of the dominant allele in a population is 36%, what is the frequency of the recessive trait in that same population? Answer: 41%

Plans for a new supermarket require a floor area of 14,400 ft². The supermarket is to be rectangular in shape with three solid brick walls and a very fancy all-glass front. If glass cost 1.88 times as much as the brick wall per linear foot, what should be the dimensions of the building so that the cost of material for the walls is a minimum?

Particle C and particle D are held together with a compressed spring between them. When they are released, the spring pushes them apart and they then fly off in opposite directions, free of the spring. The mass of C is 2.0 times the mass of D, and the energy stored in the spring was 60J. Assume that the spring has negligible mass and that all its stored energy is transferred to the particles. Once that transfer is complete, what are the kinetic energies of (a) particle C and (b) particle D?
explain your answer pleas.
