I was personally unable to see Mars from my location due to excessive solar interference. But those of you who were better placed to make plans based on the exciting emails about Mars' once in a lifetime "big as the moon" appearance must surely have something to report!

I await with baited breath.

Unless you know something about insects, please don't answer.
Approx 1 1/4" long, black to dk. irredescent blue body. Antennae are orange and segmented. Mouthparts-outside are pincherl-like with a set of mouthparts that continually protrude in and out. The legs are black, long w/4 segments each. Barbs on second segment next to body and on the black feet. Eyes are oval shaped. There is no orange on top of the abdomen. The abdomen is slightly hairy. Two long wings with prominent veins. The area between the thorax and abdomen is extremely thin. Have seen a Midas Fly before a couple of years ago. This insect is much more stout and was easier to catch. Had a hard time chasing down the last one.
