I would like for any accredited scientist to answer. I am very interested in this project, but the information regarding it is extremely hard to ascertain for a layman.

Steorn, was a "website designer" 3-4 years back. They almost perished in the dot.com burst.

Do you think "website designer" can comeup with this "unbeliveable" machine?

But why would they like to spend 75,000 pound on this hoax?
Well, popular domain names can fetch millons of dollars when they are auctioned. After this 75k pound ad, i believe steorn has got some huge hits via google search. So steorn will most probably get back more than 75,000 pounds when they resell their domain.

If some scientists with a sound "physics" background had proposed this i might have atleast considered this a possiblitiy, but not with a failed "dot.com" guy.

I'm not a scientist. But this is an extraordinary claim, and it requires extraordinary evidence. Energy cannot be created from nothing. That would violate the Energy Principle, and an exception to that rule has never been found. It would totally revolutionize physics.

In short, it simply cannot work. It is, I suppose, possible (meaning p>0, but still infinitely small) that some anonymous company from Ireland has stumbled upon something amazing like this. But I've always felt that those most fascinated by magnetic fields are people who know very little of physics. When they have proof, I'll start getting excited. Until then... it's just another perpetuum mobile.

Yes, I agree with ThePeter.
The Law of Conservation of Energy still holds. According to the law of thermodynamics we need to spend more energy then we could ever put to use. The whole think sounds as a marketing ploy.
The links below have some information and will provide you with a starting point.
Just keep in mind there is no free lunch...
Hey, who am I preaching it to. So stop puling my leg :).

steorn uses magnets for the 'device', i don't think they have one, i think they only want attention.
