I am interested in newspapers and magazines for intelligent people. I enjoy reading about international affairs, economic analyses, technological developments, trends, food and travel. I want neutral analysis, not just opinions from the left and right (is there such a thing as objectivity in our world?). I am also NOT interested in reading any gossip and speculation: what other famous and infamous people smoke, kiss, drink and do, don't concern me. I want the facts as far as it is possible, although I know that 'facts' are not as they appear. What do you recommend, anywhere in the world?

Why do you think that the media specifically will point out that someone is LDS or Mormon when reporting a story about them? For a few examples, the Smart family who's little girl was kidnapped. Thousands are kids are kidnapped everyday from people of various religions. Why this family the headlines were Mormon family girl is kidnapped. Another example is Dr. Phil had a family on his show he was helping that was LDS and on every commercial about them or every segment that came on, it was This Mormon family...... Well he's had lots of families on his show of other religions I'm sure. Why didn't they make a commercial like that for them, This Jewish family..... or This Baptist family.....?? Just wanted to hear some thoughts on the subject. Thanks!! :)

Hey guys. So, my Media Studies teacher got really mad at the class and decided to stop teaching us this unit (I'm not joking :P) So she assigned this project and no one knows what to do since she won't teach us, but basically no one in the class cares cause almost no one does their work.

But I do :P

So, the project says we write four newspaper articles:

1) Profile - with sensationilistic lead and headline
2) Editorial Colum - with slanted headline
3) Hard News - with accurate headline and common lead
4) Feature - with sensationilistic lead and headline

So, of those terms, I know what a sensationilistic lead and common lead are.

But what's a profile article? Hard News? Feature? I'm not sure exactly what types of news articles those are...so any info would help a lot...cause without knowing what types of articles those are I have noo idea how to write them :P

So yes, any info/definitions of those terms would help a lot. Thanks!

Given that he is the purveyor of every government conspiracy theory -- he even thinks Clinton purposely did the Oklahoma bombing -- isn't it possible that he is actually working for the government, proposing outlandish theories as a way to discredit the more credible conspiracy theories? His might be a classic misinformation operation.

The morning of September 11th also is very clear in my memory. When my alarm radio went off, the D.J. was saying that a plane had hit the WTC. I turned on the news just in time to see the second tower get hit. I got sick to my stomach. I just kept searching for answers trying to understand what was happening.

Around 10am I had to leave for work, I had the radio on listing to the coverage coming for New York. I remember constantly looking to the sky for planes. I was scared, this is not supposed to happen. This is America, You see things like this happen in the middle east but no here. I was worried about my safety and the safety of my family. That was something I never thought I would have to worry about being an American.

Then just when I thought it was over , A plane hit the Pentagon. The Pentagon??? Are you kidding me? The head of the United States Department of Defense! The strongest military in the world was just slapped in the face and we had no idea who did it.I started to get very mad and my fear turned to anger. I wanted to get back at who ever did this.

In the following days,I started to see all the people who were coming to help in the recovery. I saw all the reports of the fire fighters and police who lost their lives to save others. People we donating time and money to help strangers.I saw the entire country come together and focus on helping the victims of 9/11.The horrible events of September 11th were an emotional roller coaster for us all. I was most overwhelmed by then love the American people showed for each other in the months after the attack. It made me realize that no matter what happens, no matter how horrible if people stick together love can transcend all.

I am moderately liberal. I have at times made a comment here about Fox News. I have also been derided by conservatives for watching Fox. 'Why does a Liberal like you watch Fox News?'
Well, I like their 'presentation format'. And I also watch Fox to keep an eye on the 'loonies'. And I also watch and admire Fox for their skill in 'manipulation'. They 'invent' news, and to give it 'substance', they build a 'story' around it. The 'Hilary versus Obama battle' comes to mind. These guys are good.
Who else has noticed this?
