Why do you think that the media specifically will point out that someone is LDS or Mormon when reporting a story about them? For a few examples, the Smart family who's little girl was kidnapped. Thousands are kids are kidnapped everyday from people of various religions. Why this family the headlines were Mormon family girl is kidnapped. Another example is Dr. Phil had a family on his show he was helping that was LDS and on every commercial about them or every segment that came on, it was This Mormon family...... Well he's had lots of families on his show of other religions I'm sure. Why didn't they make a commercial like that for them, This Jewish family..... or This Baptist family.....?? Just wanted to hear some thoughts on the subject. Thanks!! :)

Most of the time media hypes the every thing which creates some negative emotions in the majority especially the things about minorities.Like mermons are disliked by most of the americans as polygamy is crime in US.

I think it's because a lot of people are curious about Mormonism, and whether or not people believe in it they find it intriguing. The media's main goal of course is to keep your interest, and I suppose that stories about Mormons are considered to be more interesting than stories about more "ordinary" people.

I'm sure you've noticed that the media has also focused on the religion of potential presidential candidate, Mitt Romney. The big question is, "Would you vote for a Mormon?" Why does that even matter? No one in the past ever asked if I would vote for a Methodist, or a Baptist, or an Episcopalian, or a Presbyterian, or whatever in the past (as far as I know). People just seem to find Mormonism more intriguing than the rest, I guess.

I would think because most of the world knows the high standards LDS are expected and strive to live by so when someone slips up, it's like they are pointing the finger and saying "well you are a mormon" so then they judge from what that person did...that would be my guess. Just because we are striving for perfection doesn't mean we are already perfect.

It comes with the territory. Even in General Conference President Packard talked about how people expected him to have horns.

If we have faith, those that don't will try to knock us down. If we have the same rate of divorce or child abuse as others, I chalk it up to being just as human, others will use it prove their own agenda. We aren't perfect yet.
