...and the subsequent destruction of the people and infrastructure of a country that never had the means or the intention to harm you, was an almighty cock-up that has achieved nothing except expose the US to greater hatred around the world and put its economy on the verge of a recession?

I just read a story on cnn.com that says we should exspect another 20 cents per gallon by decmeber. I already pay $3.39/gallon as of yesturday.
Should I just invest in a bicycle? What do you think the solution will be? What alternative fuels really can give us hope?

This ia very serious question and I would like it to be treated as such.
What makes you a racist, what makes you hate people of other nations/skin type/ethnicity.
what makes you dislike a black person just cos they are black, or an Asian because they are an asian or a Muslim because they are a muslim.
I am genuinlly interested in this as I dont understand it.

The death penalty is a violation of fundamental human rights, and it should be abolished around the world, South Africa's Desmond Tutu wrote in a comment piece in The Guardian on Tuesday.

I agree with Tutu. As much as we want vile, murderous scum to be punished, it has to be accepted that the death penalty is not a deterrent.

Your thoughts please.

Day after day we hear about fire crews and ambulance drivers coming under attack from yobs when they attend incidents, or deliberately staged hoax calls, and doctors and nurses being violently attacked in hosptials and A&E. What would be a fair punishment for anyone caught taking part in these attacks? Are we too soft?

Alcohol Concern say that they would like to see a big tax increase on all alcoholic drinks. I totally agree with this, as I know the misery drink can bring, not to mention what it can do to your body, the NHS is falling apart as it is, so if it still exists in 15-20 years time, how's it going to cope with all of these people who have abused their bodies by constantly over indulging in drink, and indeed, drugs? I think the government should in fact do it this way, take the obscene amounts of tax off of fuel duty, and put the difference onto drink. Cheap drink and long pub opening hours, in todays apparently Irresponsible society, was always going to lead to an alcohol addiction problem. Thats my views on the subject, whats yours?

and why should the British taxpayer pay for it, after all if he and his wife hadn't left their little babies alone night after night to go out drinking this would never have happened. I can't remember another case where the main suspects of a terrible crime were given police protection when they went to work. Does he have his police bodyguards the rest of the time as well or just for work. My question is this, Are you happy that your taxes are paying for the police protection of an acknowledged child neglector and conman who uses his daughters fund money to pay off his mortgage?

We hear that finally two of the Tapas 7 want to reveal the truth about what really happened on the night of May 3rd but are afraid to do so due to pressure from camp McCann. They are afraid because the McMafia have a host of political heavyweights behind them and no one knows exactly why this is. Why for example has the Prime minister of Great Britain personally been in touch with the McCanns on numerous occasions and spoken to his Portuguese counterpart about making sure that the McCann case is "dealt with properly". The British PM has no right to involve himself in the internal affairs of another country and vice versa. It has never happened before so why now. Why have a number of millionaires who share these friends in high places have come out of the woodwork to cover the McCanns legal costs and PR team. Why should a government spokesman leave his well paid job (which still has not been filled) to go and work as spokesperson for the McCanns.

When you have a war your President can do lots of things he could not do otherwise. He can trample on peoples privacy and civil rights, he can get military spending passed virtually unopposed and he has a more or less free hand in use of the armed forces.

The controlling factor, however, is that the coutry must be at war.

The solution, don't declare war on a specific country, declare war on something as intangible and rootless as terror. Say the coutry which offers sanctuary to terrorists will be considered to be at war, but then change the rules to allow any country to be attacked just by claiming that terrorists or WMD's could be there.

Then attack Afganistan in pursuit of Bin Ladin and when he is not found there say "well we thought he was"

Then attack Iraq after saying you think he has WMD's but when they are not found there say "well we thought there was"

Then Iran? Then where? Britain has found some terrorists there too so is the UK fair game? After Iran, who?

Its obvious how much the propaganda and cult of personality has affected the people there. They hate us, the "capitalist thugs" as much as white supremacists hate everything else. But then an irony of it is that the government seems to be letting up, as they are letting in foreign investors and entrepreneurs, and more even tourists, the westerners they have hated since they can remember. Kim Jong-Il may not actually want to bomb us at all, does he?. He kidnaps South Korean actresses and directs his own movies(though it glorifies him and north korea), and he owns TONS OF MERCEDES-BENZ, not to mention his other private collections of high class western stuff like vintage wine or vehicles. Yet, while he basks in his wealth, his people are starving. This makes me think that Kim Jong-Il only cares about being in power, not the communist cause his government relentlessly promotes to his people. So, the question, does North Korea(the whole nation) still want to bomb with nukes us?

We read with shock that on the night of 3rd May 'the McCanns did not call the police until they had discussed the possible implications for them of having left their three children alone in the holiday apartment'

This fact is just one of the 'facts' that one or more of the 'Tapas 7' want to change about their orginal statements.

Does it at last appear that we will know some truth about what happened to Madeleine as opposed to the pack of lies and spin we have been sold by Team McCann and their dodgy friends in the media ?

As the number of people who believe the McCann's killed their daughter approaches 70% surley we must have sympathy for those who have to work with the arrogant, smug, lying scamming, tosser that is Gerry McCann?

Those that work around him must be aware of his nasty short temper.

Anybody out there who has to work with this swinging child killer?

I am a television viewer that agrees with the wants of the Writers Guild of America and I would like to show my support. I get why they are asking for what they are asking, and I cannot understand why they aren't receiving it. It just doesn't make sense to me that whoever is in charge of their contracts would rather let the entertainment industry fall apart than give the writers what is deserved - without them, there is nothing and people need to appreciate their art.

So, with that said, is there something that the common viewer can do to support the strike? A petition to sign somewhere... shirts to buy... anything?

only the small eletist seem to be happy with the status quo. i monitor the common folk and they are beginning to put a real how with the corruption in politics and the outrageous governmental spend, creeping in flation and declining job market. the great move to greater diversity seems to be backfiring. really regions of very angry people. could the really revolt and get violent eventually? up til now it has just been the blacks who have become violent if the white working class hundred million revolt begins things will be dicy all around the world. but it is their business. i am for their best interests most certainly. they have been bamboozled really good or is that bad. whatever. they are all pizzed and are mad as hell. tired of bending over and taking it. cannot blame them. read new york times on this issue. kinda of hopeful, really.
