My heat pump which is used to both heat and cool my home is 15 years old and will soon need replacement. I would like to know the most reliable and reputable heat pumps brands that are available. I am told that since my system uses freon, that both the outside heat pump, as well as the inside furnace unit which partially uses the heat pump for heating in winter, will need to be completely replaced because it uses freon which already is, or will soon will be, banned for environmental reasons. The inside furnace unit runs on an electric coil strip to add the extra heat which the heat pump cannot supply when it gets too cold outside in the winter. Will the entire set up need to be replaced? And what would be the approximate cost of this total replacement? Thanks...

The swamp cooler went POP when we tried to turn it on last Sunday. The breaker popped off, and we have replaced the cooler switch and the breaker switch. Still NO power. What else should we check?

There are so many gnats in my room!! It's like I kill one, and another one appears the next five minutes after! Is there someway to attract them to one spot and then DESTROY them at the same time so they can't escape? Like sweet smelly sticky paper...something that I could make at home that would be easy. Please and thank you :)

I'm a college student and in Sept I am moving into a townhouse with 4 other people. I am not allowed to paint the walls but I am buying a bed and dresser set from my aunt. Its black and I have decided to paint it since i really dont like the black. At first i thought i would paint it off white but white walls and a white bed and dresser would be to much white. I was thinking maybe a seafoam or mint green. Any other suggestions?

It started to freeze over. The line that goes from the outside fan to the unit in the attic, to a solid block inside the unit where the radiator looking deal is. It takes all night to cool the house down to 80! It was ice cold last month. I want to have an idea before I call a repair man so he won't try to cheat me.

I have new queen-sized 100% cotton sheets that are beautiful but wrinkle really badly, They're much too big to iron, particularly for a senior citizen like me.

A friend suggested a Downy wrinkle-release product but it's very expensive. Someone else said she made her own wrinkle-release spray by combining fabric softener and water. Would that work? Does anybody know the formula?

Other than fabric spray, how can I get the wrinkles out of dryer-dried sheets without ironing them?

The manual for the zoomerang slide gives directions for attaching to wood or concrete. I would rather not use pressure treated wood.

If you can get carbon monoxide poisoning from a furnace or gas dryer, can you also get it from a gas stove? Because the burners on a gas stove aren't vented, so what's the difference? Just curious about this. Shouldn;t it be just as dangerous?

We are hoping to use our own garden cilantro in salsa this fall. We weren't sure how to grow cilantro. A crop of it is ready to harvest now. If we dry it for later use will it be any good? Is there a better way?

I have a 2 yr old IG pool. It has always had great pressure and circulation and I have never had to skim it. Since I opened it, the pressure is extremely low. I have really noticed it because I now skim several times daily and the center of the pool seems stagnant no matter how I direct the flows. The DE filter reads 10psi which is normal. I have taken apart the filter and cleaned it twice and had the pool company come to look at it. They claim that it is running at normal pressure but it is definately only about 1/3 of what it was previous years. The suction going into the 2 skimmer baskets seems to be strong, its just the return that seems to be the problem. Could it be that something happened to the motor and it is not pushing the water out as fast as it previously was? Or something else? The pool is definately not losing water so I have ruled out leaks in the return lines.

I planted some ivy under a pine tree hoping that it would cover the ground under the tree. It is still alive, but doesn't seem to be spreading at the rapid pace that everyone told me that it would. Is there something that I can do to help this along? It's been in the ground for about 3 weeks now.

How can I determine where there nest is? I have wasp tracks two of them on the patio on different places. But they do not seem to get into them. What else can I do.? I am allergic to their bites.

I live in South Florida, after the hurricanes of the last couple of years and other factors, I have become extremely claustrophobic. I cannot even be in an elevator anymore for more than 2 floors. The thought of being behind plywood boards for days on end, totally freaks me out; so I am looking for alternatives that are 1) inexpensive, 2) protective against flying objects and 3) allow light into the house. I have come up with the idea of vinyl lattice board, they meet all 3 of my requirements. I have looked into lexan panels and they are $4k for my home. (the dealers will do an all or nothing install).

Anyone else have any other low cost ideas? or suggestions?
