I'm a college student and in Sept I am moving into a townhouse with 4 other people. I am not allowed to paint the walls but I am buying a bed and dresser set from my aunt. Its black and I have decided to paint it since i really dont like the black. At first i thought i would paint it off white but white walls and a white bed and dresser would be to much white. I was thinking maybe a seafoam or mint green. Any other suggestions?

sooo do u have any pillows/cushions/ comforter/ bedspreads allready? IF so, pick a color in that to paint u'r dresser & bed frame. if u like soft colors, which u mentioned seafoam or mint gr., then u'r rm will appear lt & airy. If u want more contrast, then back to the bedspread/comforter thing. Find something that u like if u don't have a spread & go w/ different shades of that color. I would go w/ the darkest shade of that color 2 paint u'r bed & dresser. Say... u have mint in u'r spread.. go w/ dk evergreen. It is a green/bl like mint. That way u'r furniture will pop then the spread/pillows etc.. will add accents to the rm. U can even paint u'r lamp & fabric u'r shade.

U could put fabric up on 1 wall w/ corn starch mix b/c it comes down easy & u jst have to wash the wall.

If the bed doesn't have headbd.. u can make one w/ solid or fabric over foambd/batting & hot glue then hang over u'r bed w/ fancy rope...sorta like a pic frame. U can put colored frames up on u'r wall w/ either pix inside or items that u like 2 show off. U can fabric/bat that & put inside a frame & use to pin up notes or pix.

So u can't put color on u'r walls... u can put color ON the walls w/ other items as well as accessories.
Go 2 u'r paint store & look at all the samples... Pick a few out & serveral of that sample.( something that would go w/ u'r spread..take it with) .. put it on the bed & dresser & watch how the light hits it thru out the day... Then pick.

U can sand u'r bed & dresser but what I would do... use KILZ.. the orginal. It covers over very dark colors very very well. b/4 using u'r main color. U can use foam brushes or good brush & keep the strokes going in the same direction unless u want that look.

I've used Kilz on dark dark br almost black & it took 2 coats easy! If u don't, u'll b putting layers of paint on. They carry Kilz in spray so if u can afford that, do that then paint. Spray paints r limited in colors esp if u want seafoam or mint.

Have fun!!

I would say a green or another color but you may find it difficult to find things that match. Go ahead & paint the bed white. (use spray paint for furniture types & make sure you lightly sand the bed down before spraying)Go buy a bedspread that you love & by the time you put everything down including some nice throw pillows you wont even see the bed anymore.
You can always add a splash of color here & there & pictures on the wall will make a difference.

Green would be great! Decide if you want the furniture tone to be warm [sage, kelly green] or cool [ mint, jade ]; and light
[sage, mint], medium [jade, kelly] or dark [hunter, olive ].
Try the BACK of one piece first - sometimes you can't get all the black [or any dark paint] out of the wood, and have to cover with a dark stain.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get an antiquing kit. They are really easy to do and turn out great with little effort. They come in lots of colors and effects.

I love the idea of seafoam or sage green! You can use any pastel color with it, and would look clean and fresh!
