i accidently dropped an apple core roughly 2 inches long and a 1/2 inch wide in the toilet, ad then i flushed it. I was wondering the best way to unclog the toilet without calling the plummer.

Get a plumber's snake. It's a metal cable you can get at a home improvement store. The better ones have a plastic housing with a crank handle to turn it, and a metal coil or spring-like arrangement on the other. Put the cable down the toilet while turning the handle, and it screws itself into clogs. You may be able to chew the core up so that you can flush it, or else pull it back up to clear the blockage.

Another possible trick is to take the toilet up off the floor. Shut off the water first!!! Then flush it, and let the water drain as much as possible. Disconnect the water supply, remove the bolts on the sides at the floor that hold it in place. Put a BIG piece of heavy cardboard next to the toilet, and pick up the toilet and set it on the cardboard. There is a wax seal under most toilets, and the cardboard will protect the floor from that wax.

Once you've got it up, you may need to use a sponge or cloth to bail the last of the water out. Then tip the toilet over, and try to get the core out from the bottom.

Clean the wax off the bottom of the toilet, and from the drain hole in the floor. Get a new wax ring at the hardware or home improvement store, and put it back in place. Set the toilet down on the bolts that held it originally - a 2nd person here will be a great help. reinstall the bolts, connect the water, turn it on, and you're back in business. It's common for the valve to drip a bit when you first turn it on, but that should stop soon. You may be able to tighten the connection just a bit to stop that, but don't break it or strip it, whatever you do.

Sorry I cannot somehow visualize how anyone could pass an apple core. That must have been painful . You can always buy a new toilet but lets have some thought for the patient. Does he walk funny.
I phoned Ed and told him but maybe Ed is right when he says the guy was likely sitting on the toilet while eating his lunch and had an apple for dessert and it slipped while reading the comics.

Theres a simple and effective answer to this. Get a regular house mop, then get a plastic carrier bag. Tie the carrier bag around the mop head. Use the mop in your toilet pushing it in and out fast to create a lot of pressure which will force the apple core through your toilet. It is pretty much like using a plunger but you get a lot more force with the mop as you have a bigger surface to create pressure with.

It should be able to flush that. If it doesn't, it could be stuck in the bend. I would start with plunging to see if it comes up. If it doesn't, you might have to use a snake to clear it out. Sounds gross, but you can always put on a glove and see if you can feel it where it's caught in the bend.

Oh, FIRST make sure you know where the water cutoff valve is in the back of the toilet so that if it starts to overflow while you're working you can shut it off!

Good luck.

rangedog is right you want to get a closet auger. Don't try to put a plumbers snakes or sink snake down your toilet. You might get it but you will mark up the bowl of your water closet, The auger has a protective sleeve slight bend to it to protect the bowl.
I am having a hard time an apple core plugged your toilet if it is the size you are saying it was.
good luck

Get a plumbers snake and jam it down the hole until the water stops rushing uncontrollably out of your crapper. You can get a snake for about 25 dollars at your local home improvement store.
