I own a 4 -5 year old push style Craftsman lawn mower. The other day when trying to start it the entire ripcord pulled completely out. I called my local mower repair shop and they said it's going to cost me $45 to 55 bucks to repair.

Is this something I can do myself?

My tomato plants are growing in the veg patch. Last October I dug in some well rotted horse manure. I have noticed the bottom leaves of the tom plants have gone yellow and appear to be dying off. Is this a problem and if so, what's causing it?
My runner beans have also gone from being a deep green to a much paler green but have not been planted in the same place as the toms.

I am considering purchasing a chandelier that has the following dimensions: 27¼ W x 22¾ H. The chandelier will be centered over a 54” glass top table, but the room is only 10’L x 9’W, with 8ft ceiling. Even though the chandelier is the ok size for the table (1/2 the width of the table), is it ok for the room size?

I've only been gardening "for real" about 9-10 years. I love it, and I've learned so much. For one thing, I've learned to make peace with creatures that formerly freaked me out------worms, snakes, bugs, even-----to some extent!-----groundhogs, rabbits,
and deer. But I've got an on-going issue with SLUGS!

I've heard/read various tips for dealing with them and have tried putting out beer (which I'm convinced must just draw more of them into the area, don't you think??), but what I wish I could understand is this: WHAT ECOLOGICAL PURPOSE DO THEY SERVE?

To the best of my knowledge and observation, even crows don't eat them (especially those huge gray ones, big as cigars sometimes------shudder!), so what is good about slugs? It would just help me to understand what they're good for (though I'll still have to kill them when they're eating my plants!).

Thanks for any comments and advice.

I cannot get my fingers behind the mirrors to pry them loose. I have tried using a screwdriver to create leverage but it dented the wall. I then tried using a knife to loosin the mounting tape but the mirror broke. Any ideas?

I moved into an older condo about a year ago (built in the 80's); The condo is in great shape, however I have noticed that there are foul smells blowing out of the a.c. vents. The smell is intermittent, sometimes very strong smoke and others it's a terrible rotted smell, that is so disgusting it makes me gag. I had the entire upstairs A.C. unit replaced (b/c it was faulty, not b/c of the smell). The smell continues, and now when the a.c. blows the smell filters through both the upstairs and downstairs. I do not have the money to get the ducts cleaned out, and from what I've read people who have done that still have lingering smells. I have tried different filters, filter fresh odor control, etc., and the smell remains. I do not know what the smell is, or how I can get rid of it - that is cost-friendly if possible, but it's becoming really unberable! Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a really nice real wood end table that my husband accidently spilled wax on. What is the best way to remove it without scratching or removing the stain off the end table?

We've had the same barstools in our house for several years now. Probably around 7 or 8 years. I'm pretty sure they either came from Lowe's or Wolohan Lumber (which went out of businees or is a company that went bankrupt, not sure). Anyway, the screws keep working out of them. They are light colored, stained wood. The whole barstool is wooden. Theyre like really tall chairs, with a back and everything. We've tried everything to fix them, we just cant keep screws or nails from working their way out of them. No one in our family is obese or anything, so the weight of someone sitting on them is not the problem, unless they just werent made good. My mother wants to replace them, but it will probably be a year before we get to do so, since we just paid for new flooring, and my sister and I are both in college. Is there any low cost way to fix them or are we wasting our time?

Is there any kind of weed killers out there that won't harm the plants in my garden? Does miracle grow make some kind of product that can be sprayed on them right from your hose? As fast as I pull them out, they're coming back up.. any suggestions? Thanks!

I would like to buy one of those lovely mobile bungalow homes as I cannot see that we will ever be able to afford to get on the property ladder. The problem is that we have been told that we will have problems getting a site to put it on. Does anyone know where I should start to make enquiries? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. We are currently in the south east, and would like to stay fairly near because of family, but would consider any ideas-many thanks.

My garden consists of a roughly 2mx2m patch of gravel with a metal table and 4 metal chairs.

(At least, this is the section of worry.)

Round the front of the house is a lawn, flower beds and even more gravel, yet my 3 cats and 1 dog continue to use my 2mx2m space to defecate.

How do I stop them?

Are there herbs I can plant in the area to make it less appealing?

(Or any other suggestions?)
