Is there any kind of weed killers out there that won't harm the plants in my garden? Does miracle grow make some kind of product that can be sprayed on them right from your hose? As fast as I pull them out, they're coming back up.. any suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry, I have alot of what looks to be some kind of clover, it spreads real fast and they tend to wrap themselves around the plants. Also looks like alot of left over dandilion leaves, and some kind of thorny thing that gets real big. I've tried digging the bigger ones out, but their root systems are just so tough it makes it hard.

Preen. Sprinkle it in your garden, you will only have to weed once or twice a year.

There are three basic 'clover' looking plants with trifoliate leaves commonly mistaken for each other. There is oxalis or black medic, yellow wood sorrel and white clover.
They each have differences in the leaflets.
Oxalis has the center leaflet the longest and widest.
Yellow wood sorrel has distinct heart shape to each leaflet and each one has a center fold line like a paper cut heart.
Clover has a serrate or toothed edge on the leaflets.

If you really have clover it is a sign your yard is deficient in nitrogen because clover like all legumes is a nitrogen fixer. Soil low in nitrogen can not support a lawn or heavy feeders like most flowering plants so clover colonizes and restores the nitrogen. Clover also likes a fairly moist soil. So if you cut back on the water and up the level of the nitrogen that your garden needs to thrive, your lawn and garden beds will do better and weeds like clover will do worse.
Mix a high nitrogen source, like alfalfa meal or any seed meal, with compost or earthworm castings and spread this evenly over all areas the clover is growing.
To suppress other weeds lay out newspaper a few sheets thick and dampen them as you go so it stays in place. Cover this with a fertile mulch 2-4 inches thick. This is done once to eliminate light from seeds in the soil. Every time you weed you turn up soil exposing seeds to the light they require to germinate. This is why farmers used to plant by moonlight. Fewer weeds to infest the crop. Do not let mulch touch plant stems or crowns as this can cause rot to injure shrubs or perennials.
Fertile mulch is manure composted with sawdust. Not as pretty as bark but supplies some nitrogen for next year as it breaks down. Next year, several times in spring spread a preemergent like preen, which is corn gluten. This prevents new weeds from starting and provides a little fertilizer.
If you have a patch of dense weeds spray them with 10 or 20% vinegar. This is sprayed on foliage not the soil. To a gallon of 20% vinegar, mix a tablespoon of liquid dish soap and two tablespoons of molasses as wetting agents. Apply full strength from a hand sprayer. 20% vinegar is available at some Nurseries, Lowes, and Home Depot garden centers. (20 % costs over $10/gal but less than Scott’s Weed B Gon at $15/gal. Only the hardiest weeds need 20%, 10% does for most weeds. Then the recipe is to a 1/2 gallon of 20% vinegar, mix a tablespoon of liquid dish soap and two tablespoons of molasses as wetting agents then bring the volume up to one gallon with water.

There are tons of different types of weed killers on the market and it depends on the type of weeds you are targeting. You can get a general large leef weed killer that you spread. IE weed and feed from vigoro.

Miracle grow does have a fertilizer that you can spray using the hose.

In regards weeds if you pull they completely out, that includes the roots, they wont grow back. If you miss just 1 piece of the root it will be back. Similarly same thing happens with morning glories. I can get rid of those grrrr.

Preen is really safe and helpful. Best if used before you plant your garden. Shake on the area you want to plant in, it comes in a plastic container, and is little round balls. The other safe herbicide is Round-up, comes in liquid form in a spray. Spray directly on weeds and watch them die. Both are fast and efficient, will not harm plants.
