i had cpr several times with the longest lasting an hour and a half. just curious if other people have survived after anything like this also? 1st one was 29 minutes, 2nd was 55 minutes and the last one was an hour and a half. to say the least, my doctors and surgeon were stunned. they told my family i would have no brain function.

For around 3 weeks now, I haven't been feeling amazing. I have been a bit more tired than usual. I have had some tightness in my chest, well, not so much my chest, but between my breast and my armpit. It is on both sides, but worse on the left side. It is more disturbing when I stretch, or move. But, I don't recall pulling a muscle or anything like that. My shoulder, and armpit, and next to my breast are extremely sore feeling. Sometimes I find my heart feeling like it is skipping a beat. I quit smoking around the time that all this started happening. Actually, these symptoms came on within the first few days of me quitting, and they just haven't gone away. I feel bad most of the day, but generally not all day. I tend to get a couple hours of relief every day. Could this be my heart, or soemthing else?
I know I need to get to a doctor. That is the common sense answer. I won't be insured until next week though. I was looking for some opinions before then.
Thanks all!

Thanks to all for answering; I have also discovered that lack of use of the calf muscles can lead to pain upon more-than-usual exertion.
Does anyone agree with this?

I am not sure what to do about my pains?
I am 23 years old and for over a year now I have been experiencing chest pains that more or less bring me to the floor...last April I had a stroke due to stress. I get terrible, terrible migraines almost daily and my legs sometimes go numb and when they don't I almost always have extreme discomfort in them. I do have high blood pressure...it averages around 155/105...I am not overweight or anything and need to know what to do...I have been to a Dr.(many different ones and they never seem to know what the problem is. Can someone reccomend anything?

Ever since I turned 40 I have noticed if I have one drink or two I have no issues. When I overindulge at a party I get home and fall asleep then I wake up with very fast palpitation and it is scary. I find it hard to catch my breath which cause more panic. I have had a heart moniter, ekg, and everything looked great. I am very athletic so this is puzzling me.
I know that they figured it was a bit of panic or anxiety but I have noticed other people suffer from this. Why does the alcohol do that to me?

I know that stress elevates your blood pressure, but if you are stressed in the morning and things calm down, how long is your blood pressure affected?

I bought a home blood pressure monitor recently, after my blood pressure was found to be slightly high. I'm finding that there's quite a difference between morning and evening readings. Is this normal?

Just received my latest blood test.
Blood sugar - marked "normal"
Chem. screen - marked "normal"
Cholesterol - 166
HDL - 48
LDL - 78
Triglyceride - not marked this time

So what is a normal tryglyceride level?
Whay doesn't my HDL + LDL = my total cholesterol??

I am currently on Lovastatin 40mg & on a high fiber (legumes & whole grains) diet.

I am still 40 lbs overweight also but slowly going down.

I have previously been diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachyacardia 3 years ago, at the time I had the ablation done to stop the problem. My palpitations have started back up again and I am worried about taking any more action. I have seen a doctor and have been given Lanoxin and have not taken it. What are the risks if any involved with SVT if I choose not to have it fixed??

They say it was an apparent heartattack. No signs or symptoms. He was 41(smoker-moderate drinker)complained of faintness, laid on ground-turned purple from neck up and I guess was gone. No complaints of chest tightness-nothing! Coronor said no autopsy was needed.Could it have been a blot clot or anyrysm? He was raking the lawn. He was very active always doing things. I just dont understand.

I recently , as of 3 months ago had my mitral valve repaired via a minimal invasive surgery procedure. I am still on the drug Warfarin and Atenolol untill the cardiologist sorts out my irregular heart beat , it could be side effects from the drugs in which case once I am weaned of the drugs and my body has time to reajust things could get back to normal otherwise I may need a pace maker, I am told by my Doctor. I am looking for a support group to ask some questions. Does anyone out there know someone who has had the same procedure who I can have a few words with. Or are there any support groups out there that I can contact.

I'm writing a novel. Based on 1960s patient medication procedures rather than todays computerized systems. The parient is given a regular dose by a nurse then given an overdose of the same meds by a bad guy that kills the patient. The hospital is then sued for negligence.
What heart drug would be used in normal routine patient medication to help in recovery and at the same time if overdosed would kill him?The overdose has to be realistic and not something that would never be used or carried in a hospital pharacy.
Thanks Roger
