1.Core package or premium package? Is the premium package worth the extra $100?

i have been trying to install sim2 for ages
but we keep having troubles
i have installed all 4 discs. but it keep coming up with the same error
you need to dowload dirext.9.ocx
i have dowloaded directx9.oc many times
i have the right graphics card
i have unstalled windows and have installed windows
and that dosent work
we have tryed to dowload the directx9.0c of the sims 2 cd and it says it has done it, but the error still comes up and we have re started pc, and the cd are not faulty becuase it works on my mates pc.
its really getting fustraing! if anyone can solve this i will give u the biggest hug ever! lol
can anyone help?
