What's the best RPG ever released (and I mean ever since the olden golden days of Zork) in your opinion, and what do you think made it so great?

I mean any RPG, not just MMORPGs. There are tons of non-MMORPGs, like Ultima series and Elder Scrolls, that were extremely popular and influenced a lot of games produced after they came out.

I'd have to say final fantasy 7. It was WAY too easy, but really fun. it had a brilliant plot, and incredible score, and loveable characters. I just wish it was more of a chalange. And it was the key to RPGs breaking out to the popular game styles.

Everquest by far is the most groundbreaking. It was really the first extremely popular MMORPG. I know there were others before that but Everquest set the standard that is still used today. Should go down as the greatest computer game of all time.

As somebody else suggested, Neverwinter nighttime one million and a couple of are super video games, yet they do defend a brilliant style of the complicated rulesets of D&D. The Legend of Grimrock is a brilliant indie RPG besides that would not have lots standards. in case you do not ideas somewhat somewhat dated pictures, Spiderweb utility has some super indie RPGs mutually with Avernum and Avadon. they are somewhat dated in terms of pictures nonetheless (and generally each thing else different than layout and gameplay).
