I was thinking of getting Phantasy star online for the 360 but then i realised that you had to pay for it, is it realy worth paying money on something i already had to go out and buy?

Im guessing you mean 'Phantasy Star Universe', most MMO type games add extra content as you play, the development and programming of this extra content and the maintenance of the online servers that host the games is the reason you pay a subscription. and don't forget, PSU includes an entire offline game to play without any subscription costs.

Games like World of Warcraft are worth paying a subscription fee for, on top of buying the game because they allow you to interact in real time with people across the world.
Community is key.
