I have not seen anything to indicate that GC controllers or other more firmilar types of controls will ever be used for the Wii.
I can't imagine playing basketball being a problem, though. Control movement with the nunchuck, press A to pass, B for energy boost thinggy, directional pad for special moves, Z to line up a shot and then A when you're ready to take it. Use wrist flicks for pass fakes or what have you.
The problem isn't with the control system, the problem is getting used to a different way of controling things. Like being used to a mouse and getting used to a trackball.
