Well World of Warcraft is basically a game in which you start a character (can choose a variety of classes like wizard, warrior, priest, rogue) and basically build it up and make it more powerful.
By doing quests and killing monsters you get new weapons and new armor. You join a group of people and as a team you go out to kill more powerful stuff as you level. Leveling means you have killed enough monsters and completed enough quests that the game rewards you with increased statistics making you more powerful.
As you progress in the game you can join large guilds of players who "raid". Raiding is when groups (anywhere between 6-40 people) team up and really take down very hard Boss monsters like big dragons and things that would be impossible to take out alone.
It is a very addictive and time consuming game as people really care about their characters progression and the new gear that they can get. Many people just want to be the best players on their particluar server. Also WoW has a player vs player part to it where you team up and fight other players on small maps. You uuse all the gear you get from your adventuring to kill the opposing team. IT IS VERY COMPETITIVE!
This game is extremely social. You meet people from all over the world and make in-game friends to adventure with. But, as all social and online games go you will also meet very unfriendly people as well. People who will lie, cheat, and steal things from you all in their motivation to get the next best item and just be the best out there. Many people take this game VERY seriously and devote large portions of their lives to it.
The graphics of the game are very good and you can customise your character in a variety of ways making it a very unique character. You will see duplicates out there, but overall if you want to make somthing out of the ordinary you definatly can.
The maps that you can walk around with your charcter are very large and the world itself is well rather imense. As you get higher level you can explore more areas and fight new monsters.
Overall I would say it is a great game, but defninatly not for everyone.

As a now professional gamer, and leader/co-founder of one of the current top ranking guilds on WoW, I can attest to what that guy said about the Zygor guides from that website http://www.zygorguides.pcti-system.com .. When I first started using them, is when I started taking my WoW gaming to a whole new level. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. As advanced as I am now, I still use them as an awesome reference/aid. Highly recommended if you're serious about being an accomplished WoW gamer, or just a newb looking to quickly learn the ropes and advance. On a side note, I am looking forward to the Warlords of Draenor expansion coming in November, and the updated guide to go along with it. Should be epic.
