My husband has never had a surprise birthday party and I am throwing him one this year (he's turning 24). It's going to be a scavenger hunt of his favorite things. He'll have clues to get to each spot where he'll have to do one of his favorite things. For example, he'll have to go to our local frisbee golf course and play one hole. It will end at our local Skydive place. We'll have cookie cake and drinks and stuff. So when I'm asking for a theme, I'm basically asking what fun plates, napkins, party hats, etc. should I buy?

Has anyone every thrown a large outdoor party on their own? I was thinking maybe I should have more casual fete outdoors (with a beach or polynesian theme), but still with good food and a DJ. Like maybe I could do it at a park or something since my backyard isn't really appealing and I want a good amount of people there. How would I go about using a public park space?

I've got a friend's 21st coming up and it's a Hawaiian dress up party. I'm trying to think of costumes that are different from the standard hawaiian shirt and all that. Any ideas? (I'm a guy by the way, but any ideas for a girl would be fine too because my girlfriend doesn't know what to wear either!)

I want to host a beer tasting party for my husband's birthday. I was thinking of doing it "bracket style" and having people sample two beers and choose one to move to the next round. Any ideas on how to make it "blind"? (bottles are so recognizable) Any other suggestions?

When I was in high school in the late 90's, 16 was no different from any other birthday except for getting a driver's license. 18 and 21 were much more important birthdays. Some people of Hispanic heritage had quinceaneras at age 15, and I knew a Filipina who had a similar party at age 18. But a 16th birthday party wasn't anything really extraordinary.

Now, I see a lot of questions here asking about Sweet Sixteen parties, with themes, grand entrances, catering, hired dancers, etc. Is this all just copying MTV, or was there always this kind of birthday party and my hometown was an anomaly?

I am turning 16 in a few months and i am going to have a party, my sister had one a while ago that was all fo fo and nice and i just went to one that was cinderlla themed and they were both nice and all but i am defanitly not that type of girl. I dont like having all the attention or being announced or walked in and...im more edgy i guess you can say. I dont want to wear pink or white or any of those colors. When i was at a dress store shopping, an emplyee suggested a theme of "Pretty in Punk" instead of "Pretty in Pink" and i completly fell in love with the idea....now i just need help with ideas for how to make it happen. any suggestions for decorations? the dress? favors? invitations? anything?

shampoo, lotion, hair aren't choices. It's a tradition that the siblings do in my family. We have kept it pretty simple with just dying the milk, but are trying to step it up a bit. My mom hates it when we dye the milk, and refuses to drink it. Have fun with this one. I'm up for anything that can be fixed or poured out in a day or so. Just trying to keep the tradition alive.

I am inviting some friends over next weekend and I like to know if any one has any suggestions on what to have. This will be my first time doing it. I know a little bit about wine, but not enough to pick for everyone...! also if you have any suggestions on what to serve as appetizers. e.q. cheese platters, fruits, roast brochettes, etc.

Thanx

I've already asked the invited to wear all black and I'm hoping to set up mirrors that I've "broken" with a sharpie or other mirror friendly marker. I'm planning on lots of 13s and black cats. What else can I do to play up superstitions?

I was wanting to buy some "Zoo Pal's" plates for my son's birthday party, but I'm scared that they will be flimsy and cheap.

Has anyone used them? Are they really cheaply made? will they be able to hold hamburgers/hotdogs/cake?

thanks!

We're getting married in August of this year, and I just found out that the place we're eating in isn't air conditioned. This is changing what we were thinking of having for a light lunch. It was going to be a hot meal, but now we're thinking more on the lines of cold lunches but all we can think of is a cold cuts buffet. Any other ideas that would be nice for a wedding? Or additions onto a cold cuts buffet that would make it a little classier?

This is also an semi-formal wedding, and the lower price the better!

Thanks!
