[1] Some of the explorers of the 16th century were looking for a shorter route to Asia through the Northwest Passage to make it easier to get spices home. What was the incentive to risk death from imagined sea monsters or sailing off of the edge of the world to get spice when most of us wouldn't even make a special trip to the store just because we're out of pepper or cinnamon? (Hint: it's not exactly for the reason you and I use spice)

[2] Why was turning water into wine considered a good and helpful miracle, something befitting a deity? After all if somebody wanted to impress the world today, would they turn water into whiskey or beer? No. More likely the other way around. Why was wine better than water? (Hint: it has nothing to do with intoxication)

In many states (well, I know at least in Colorado), liquor stores are forced to stay closed on Sundays according to the law. And places that do sell alcohol (like the grocery store) cannot sell it to you on Sundays. Why is this? I know it's rooted in religion, but how on Earth does this law protect anyone? I can see stopping the sale of liquor at a certain time and forcing bars to close at a certain time protecting people... but what makes Sunday so special? Thanks!

Silly question, but maybe someone might hav another idea.. I tried it with a fork once, it did it, but the cork was more the plastic- sort... Tried it with a different type of cork and it just crumbled and went all over my wine...

The lights are going out all over Britain. We shall not see them lit again in our lifetime. Or possibly ever. The British pub is under threat. An institution adored and envied all over the world is disappearing before our very eyes and with it our national drink, beer.

I have a friend that lives in London and loves bourbon. I'd like to get him a bottle of something from the US that he won't likely find in his local pub. Then, of course, I've go to get it to him. I'm open to ordering online and shipping to the UK. If it's not obvious, I'm in the US. Many thanks in advance.

I keep a list of all the beers I try at http://www.geocities.com/lager57

Back in the late 1980's I tried Dragon Stout, brewed in Jamaica by Desnoes & Geddes LTD. It is one of my top 10 favorite imports.

Thursday I bought a 6-pack of Dragon Stout. Now it is brewed and bottled by Red Stripe.

On my beer list, should the new Dragon Stout count as a different beer? Sould I make a new enty with the new brewer, and increment my count?

In the words of jeremy clarkson "i would rather blowtorch my nipples off" than drink budweiser

Some people have told me that it is the worlds best selling beer....however its not a beer its a lager. Bitter being beer.
