Has anyone ever tried it? Is there really an airpocket at the end?

Yes. We have a boot. There is an air pocket. Go to a German bar and ask for one or buy one and take it to your bar.
There are VERY important boot rules. Abide:

- Once the boot is filled you must always pass the boot to the same person. If you are at a table pass clockwise. If you are in a bar; best of luck and keep track of who you are passing to. If you drop out of the boot before it is empty you must buy all boot drinkers a shot.
- You may receive the boot with two hands but before it touches your lips you may only hold the boot with one hand. If you touch your other hand to the boot you must drink again.
- Before drinking the boot must be oriented such that the toe is facing away from you. Fail to properly orient the boot results in taking another drink or buying a shot for the person preceding you at the discretion of the person after you. Side pointing is ILLEGAL. Swirling is not.
- After drinking you must flick the boot. If you do not flick the boot you must drink again. Any boot drinker may call you for not flicking the boot.
- The boot may never touch a table or bar after the fist drinker picks it up. Anyone who touches the boot to table or bar must take another drink or buy a shot for the preceding person. This is at the discretion of the person following the offender. Any boot drinker or spectator may call you for a table violation.
- If you spill beer on yourself as a result of drunkeness or a toe air bubble you must drink again or buy a shot for the person preceeding you. This is at the descretion of the person following you.
- If you finish the boot you may place it on the table. The person preceding you must buy the next boot because they failed to finish the boot. At this time it is suggested yelling something of your choice. Suggestions are "G'suffa!", "You're buying the next boot, Ted!", or "Ich bin so toll, Ich bin so toll!"

All you have to do is hold the boot so the toes point out to the side. You don't have to twirl it.
