I have two questions actually

1) How many days after the expiry date does milk usually last for in the fridge unopened?

2) How many days after the expiry date does milk last for in the fridge after being opened?

For example the expiry date on the milk carton is 1st of Sept what date will the milk definately go off?

Why is corned beef called corned beef? I am assuming it is something to do with the way it is processed, but is there actually any corn involved or is it just the process called corned?

I saw a cooking programme a while ago, and the chef used this bizarre vegetable which looked really intertesting.

It look exactly like a banana, aside from it was much longer and less curved. The difference was this version is a vegetable not a fruit - it was something to do with the starch not converting to sugar, so it could be used to cook meals with - apparently it was quite savoury?

I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, but it looked interesting and I'd like to have a bash at using it - I think it's suited to more Carribean dishs, but I could be wrong.

If anyone knows the name of it I'd be in love with you.

eating or is it that they are cooked ok but then left too long? Or is it because they were too old when cooked? When prawns are not cooked with oven heat, but they are mariinated in lemon and then eaten, is that the equivalent of oven heat when it comes to killing any potential food poisoning? Also, when you are at a small island in the ocean surrounded by hundreds of moored boats whose onboard toilets empty into the sea, is it safe to eat seafood that is caught in that area either after it has been oven cooked or mariinated in lemon? Is it safe to swim there?
