If I want to perk up, I have sure fire songs that will make me feel happier or energetic or just make me smile, whereas if I really want to get into some deep emotional feelings, I can enhance them with certain songs too.
Music also has the ability to hold memories for me. Just listening to a song can trigger memories and emotions I felt related to people or events that are associated with a past time when I listened regularly to that music long ago. I immediately can feel again what I was feeling back then, just by listening to the song. I can't usually trigger past emotions to that degree of intensity otherwise.
Why is music so powerful? What is it about it? Do we have some kind of brain-connection that enables music to move us?
And why is it that we can remember the words to songs from YEARS ago, yet damned if we can remember what we said a day ago or even what we ate last week. Why are lyrics ingrained so deeply yet other events barely manage an imprint at all?
