Remove it and return it to the bank.
They've got security cameras - if they see you take it and walk away, then you'll be busted.

I'd try to see if somone had just left that it might belong to, and also check to see if the bank was still open. If no one is around, and the bank is closed, I admit I would take it. I may do something oddball like hold my license up to the camera if there is one at the ATM. Maybe write a note with my phone number as well. But, most ATMs don't have those, that you can identify, so I'd keep the money. I would not spend it for at least a week in case I was contacted about it, but then I'd do something nice for my family (like dinner or a movie), and put the rest in the collection at church.
I figure I can't just leave it because there is no way of knowing who might take it and what they'd use it for, and most people wouldn't be as concientious as I was on this. That may be a bit hypocritical, but it's just a gut feeling.

Depending on where the macine is either take it inside of the building that owns it or take it to the mannager of the bank. EIther way there's probably a way that they can look up and contact the last person that used the machine. Theres always the other option which is to take the money and spend it on something for you. Now wouldn't you feel bad if that had belonged to a single 15 year old parent that had pulled some cash out to buy supplies for their child? No matter what do what you can to find the owner.

If it was sticking out of an ATM machine, then i'd know i was being watched - and taped - by at least one security camera. So i would return it to the bank.
If i found $100 on the *street*, however.....well, that's free money, isn't it?

Take the money and spend it. If the camera catches me taking money that is sticking out of the machine, that’s fine with me. If the want to spent the $1000+ man hours tracking me down, all the more power to them, but they’re sure gonna have a hard time proving that I took the money considering the money was sticking out of the f-ing machine.
PS. And I wouldn't run from the scene, I have my pride. Besides if I'm out walking one of my cat's ain't no cop gonna want to stop me for taking a misplaced Benjamin.

Well if it's still in the atm and if i take it i'd be stealing from the bank, because its still in the Atm machine, so i'd leave it. 100 dollars is not worth goin to jail over. they have cameras all over those things.

See if I can catch up to the person that used the ATM before me. Turn it in to the bank if thats where the ATM is located. They can track who it belongs to by time of day and cameras.

If I see the person leaving the ATM, I'd return it to them. I actually had this happen. If no one is around, I would take it and bring it to the bank. They have cameras, you know?

I look around and without showing the money I ask if anyone has recently used the machine. And when too, like 2 minutes ago or something. If quite recently I ask if they were missing it and if no one's used it ever or recently I would take it.
