I know that Harriet Wheeler and David Gavurin took time off to raise their kids, but it's been 10 years since Static and Silence came out. Even a single or an EP would be great...

When we think of our favorite albums, it's usually the band's 4th or 5th or 11th or 12th or whatever. But what is a band that's first album is (in your opinion) their best?

Assuming the world doesn't end by then of course.

What bands/artists will be the next Mozart, Vivaldi and Bach? Who will really go down in history for generations as music to remember?

My personal guess would have to be Yes. Close to the Edge will certainly stand the test of time. That's just one example, I'm not going to say the rest of mine.

What do you think?

Not necessarily"the 50s or 60's" or "70's" ,80's or" 90's"...any
10 year block that was most influential, most talented, most creative.

I choose 1967 to 1977 and I'll tell you why later......I appreciate all thoughts and commentaries....

was better than their first. (second or subsequent albums will do if that makes it easier). This is kind of in response to Sookie's question a few days ago.

The ones that come to my mind are Smashing Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream", Radiohead's "The Bends", and one many of you may not have heard, Bell X1's "Flock" (their third album).

I know this question has been asked in the past, but I'm not feeling well at all today, and could use a giggle....

Do you have a moment you can associate with music that REALLY made you feel old?

One of my moments - my hubby & I are in the store. Rod Stewart's cover of "The First Cut Is The Deepest" is playing. Two teenage girls are within earshot. They listen to the song, pause, and begin complaining about how Rod Stewart was covering a Sheryl Crow song, and "can't he write his own songs?"

I honestly don't know what they would have done if I would have mentioned Cat Stevens to them.....

I was just reading this brief article about Alicia Keys, and how her mother helped her choose her stage name. She had flirted with the name "wild", but didn't go with it. Her mother feels that if Alicia had gone with her instincts that her image, and how she is perceived, would be quite different:

How much of an impact do you think name selection has? Can you think of any examples where someone's name has played a role in their career, either positive or negative?

Been playing bass for about a month so far but I'm finding it hard to decide what songs to play. Could you guys recommend some songs especially ones where the bass is easy to hear so i can tell whether I'm getting it right. I'd prefer songs from the pop punk, rock genres like Paramore, The Academy is... etc but I don't mind songs from other genres. The more recommendations the better!

Okay, ten points to the first one who get's this song correct!! I will show you some lyrics, then give you some background history. Here it goes:

"if you're blue and you don't know where to go to why don't you go where fashion sits..."

"..dressed up like a million dollar trooper! trying hard to look like gary gooper! SUPER DOOPER!!"

Total weird 80's song. Good luck!
