Chris Rock: Music kind of sucks. Nobody’s into being a musician. Everybody’s getting their mogul on. You’ve been so infiltrated by this corporate mentality that all the time you’d spend getting great songs together, you’re busy doing nine other things that have nothing to do with art. You know how shitty Stevie Wonder’s songs would have been if he had to run a ******’ clothing company and a cologne line?

RollingStone: Plenty of rappers say, “I’m not a rapper, I’m a businessman.”

Chris Rock: That’s why rap sucks, for the most part. Not all rap, but as an art form it’s just not at its best moment. Sammy the Bull would have made a shitty album. And I don’t really have a desire to hear Warren Buffett’s album - or the new CD by Paul Allen. That’s what everybody’s aspiring to be.

We live in a weird time. No one knows who’s smart - we just know who makes money. “Hey, somebody invented Viagra! We don’t know their name, but we know Pfizer, because they make the money.” That guy made a pill that keeps your dick hard, and nobody knows who the **** he is. The pharmaceutical companies are like ******’ record companies. There’s literally the Bo Diddley of medicine walking around, not getting his royalties. He signed all his ******* pill publishing away.

When I hear a song and the lyrics have a bit of bad grammar, I always want to correct it, like in The Doors' L.A. Woman, Jim Morrison sings
"If they say I never loved you
You know they are a liar"
and that always bothered me

Just me or does it bother you too?

Since you can have rap without there being hip hop (e.g. in a TV commerical, in a Madonna song), can you have hip hop without the rap? And are there any examples of this?

I need help because I'm confused and more muddled than I should be. This goes out to anybody that has the will.i.am song "I Got It From My Mama". Who is the girl in that song? Is it Fergie or Nicole of the Pussycat Dolls? Wiki says its Nicole, but everybody else says its Fergie. Can somebody help me?

I came across this song that appears to be called "Beyond Average" and might be by Eminem, but it doesn't sound like him - could it be from his early days or by an imposter? I can't find lyrics anywhere but the song is here on YouTube:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=7CcwCe0-nRc

Please let me know if you have any more information about it! Thanks!

Is there a reason for it? I listen to 2 country stations in my area, (SW Missouri), and I listen to a country station online that's from St.Louis, and all three stations are playing Garth Brooks more often. Is this happening in your area? If it is, why do you think it is happening?

Don't tell me Leonard Bernstein, 'cause I've heard too much that his interpretations are lukewarm and standard-issue. Apparenly he was great in his day, but that era is over. So, our of Karajan (BPO, 1962 version), Szell (Cleveland Orchestra), Haitink (LSO) and Bruno Walter (Colombia Symphony Orchestra), which conductor gives Beethoven the best performance? PLEASE don't respond if you're just going to bash me for denouncing Bernstein. I like his Mahler, but he's apparently out of his depth here.

Okay, some of you have probably read my previous question "R13 vs. E11." My parents and I decided that the R13 is a better quality clarinet and is worth the extra money. So I talked to this woman who sells clarinets and she has three choices for me: a festival R13 and two vintage model R13s, all within my price range.

My question is what is the difference between a festival and a vintage model? Is there really that big of a difference between the two? I know the vintage appearantly better, but how?

Any [positive] comments welcome!
Thanks!
