I can't understand why most of the music out today is remade. Don't get me wrong it's good, but it just seems like people cannot come up with all original lyrics and music. Why do people remake songs? It seems like just about every popular song was someone elses. Any opinions??

Im over 40 (by more than a few years!) and am curious if many young people know and appreciate their "rock and roll heritage" I have a collection of over 15000 songs from that era. However, there are a lot of songs from the 80's forward I also. But, in general, I find the music from the 70's on back much more enjoyable and satisfying to listen to than most of the music today.
Having said that, I stillI believe good music is timeless and we shouldn't decide whether we like a particular song based on how old or new it is.

Also, how do you think today's mainstream music compares to that of a generation or two ago?

When I was a kid I remember listening to their song 'White Noise' and being horrified and the language used.
